Lamp inspired room decor
Project type
Woodworking
Date
2024
This product is a small desk sized decor piece which was originigally designed to work as a lamp with led strips positioned undeneath the cylindrical lamp head. I later removed the LED strips as they did not adhere well and cam undone easily and the wires powering the LED strips looked messy and din't match the design. The original body of the product was made in school as part of a project but i repainted it and sanded some parts at home. To build it i used plywood sheets which were cut on a bandswa into circular shapes for the base and the lamp head, i also used a aluminium bar which i bent with a hammer in a vice to create the curved shape. To create the square cubes which spin i used a plank of softwood which i cut up and drilled holes into. The inspiration for the product was one of the toys found at hospital waiting rooms children play with bringing a playful mood to the desk space. Overall, the project works well and the recent improvements dramatically increased the visual quality of the product. If i made it again i might use led strips again but hide the wires along the structure of the lamp.
